Project Profile: Solar and Microgrid Projects

Solar and Microgrid ProjectsProject Background:  The need for clean and reliable renewable power is growing in the District of Columbia, with a requirement for 5% of citywide energy supply to come from local solar resources by 2032. This need could be met through the development of solar arrays, microgrid systems, integrated battery storage, and other alternative energy solutions. These systems could be built on or at existing public facilities such as the District’s hundreds of acres of rooftop, brownfields, and parking lots or in cooperation with private property owners. These new renewable energy generation sources could not only reduce the District's energy costs, grow the local workforce, and improve resiliency, but potentially generate additional revenue to offset initial capital costs. These systems could also be structured as community renewable energy facilities (CREFs) to allow residential, commercial and non-profit partners to offset their conventional power purchases.
